For this project I was required to research into an environmental issue relating to sewage, plastic or fish and the problems this issues causes within the ocean surrounding Wales and the UK.
I chose to explore the problem of incorrect disposal of spent coffee ground waste within coffee shops and homes and its environmental effect on marine life. To create a behavioral change towards coffee shops I purposed an organised partnership between coffee shops and local mushroom farmers, where the spent ground coffee would be supplied to mushroom farms to be used as a substrate within mushroom farming.

Using my personal experience of working as a barista, and primary and secondary research, 4 information design boards were created presenting the problem, influencer mapping, solution and methodology, and a user journey.

For the disruptive design I was tasked with finding a way to visually interrupt the target audience in order to convey the problem and my proposed solution. Within this part of the project I explored a separate problem within coffee waste and explored the incorrect disposal of coffee pods in households.
To achieve this I designed a series of large scaled, 3d models of coffee pods that would be placed within shop coffee aisles, visually disrupting the environment and effectively reaching the target demographic. These coffee pods would be interacted with, pulling out an information graphic hidden within the coffee pod (an action that simulates the pulling out of coffee ground waste) that provides information on the problem and how someone can change their actions to enable positive change.
